232 Daniels Scholars from 4 states prepare for college at
SHIFT- Scholars Heading Into the Future Together

DENVER – On June 15-18, the new class of 2015 Daniels Scholars from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming will convene at the University of Denver for Scholars Heading Into the Future Together (SHIFT), a program designed to prepare incoming scholars for success in college and the future.

SHIFT is an action-packed orientation for Daniels Scholars that includes classes and activities to prepare them for college, college life, business, community, and much more. This weekend fosters camaraderie amongst the new scholars, of whom nearly half are the first in their family to attend college.

Presentations and activities will range from Professional and Dining Etiquette and The Fine Art of Small Talk, to Chasing Authentic Success and Ethical Frameworks. The students will gain access to their Daniels Scholar Portal, as well as to their College Grad Plan, an online program that helps keep them on track to graduate in four years.

The scholars will be formally introduced at the Scholar Celebration Dinner on Tuesday, June 16, at the Denver Hyatt Regency Hotel. 7NEWS' Anne Trujillo will emcee the event, which will feature a moving presentation by Liz Murray, author of Homeless to Harvard. More than 600 scholars and community leaders will attend the Celebration.

Daniels Scholars are selected based on their exceptional character, leadership, passion to succeed, and commitment to give back to their communities. Daniels Scholarships cover the unmet needs of the student after all other financial aid sources have been applied. The four-year scholarship allows students to attend any nonprofit college or university in the United States.

With this year's announcement, more than 3,200 students have received the Daniels Scholarship. At any given time, there are nearly 1,000 Daniels Scholars attending more than 200 colleges and universities in 45 states. More than $127 million in scholarships have been awarded since 2000.

Cable television pioneer Bill Daniels founded the Daniels Fund to provide grants and scholarships in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. His estate transferred to the Daniels Fund when he died in 2000, making it one of the largest foundations in the Rocky Mountain West. Visit DanielsFund.org for more information.
