Position Information 

Title: Senior Vice President, Scholarship Program

Department:  Scholarship

Supervisor(s):  President & CEO

Salary: $130,000 to $180,000

Application Deadline: October 23, 2020


Position Summary

The Senior Vice President, Scholarship Program guides and implements the strategic direction set by the Board for all programmatic activities of the Daniels Scholarship Program, while maintaining and extending the legacy of our founder, Bill Daniels.

The position also provides oversight and direction for scholar selection and programming, scholar relations, scholar alumni, scholar enrichment, and Scholarship Department data management.

This position directly supervises professional staff in the Scholarship Department.

 

Position Duties 

General

  • Serves as a member of the Daniels Fund's executive management team.
  • Serves as a member of the Daniels Fund's internal grants committee.
  • Responds to requests of the Board of Directors.
  • Directs the development, management, and monitoring of the Scholarship Department budgets.
  • Engages in high-level community outreach. Develops and maintains partnerships and constituent relations with nonprofit organizations, foundation executives, policy makers, business executives, etc.
  • Works with the Senior Vice President, Communications, for the development of marketing and communications strategies and materials for the Scholarship Program.
  • Manages and makes recommended changes to the Scholarship Policy.
  • Manages special projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Manages Scholarship Department

  • Manages the community-based scholar selection process in geographic regions in four states in accordance with Board Policy.
  • Manages a relationship-based scholarship program designed to encourage a successful college experience and high graduation rates.
  • Manages the execution of scholar programming such as new scholar orientation, a summer residential transition program, alumni, scholar enrichment, and parent outreach activities.
  • Manages the data entry and integrity of the data management system that supports the scholarship program. The data management system provides the framework for all data collection, program compliance, reporting, payment tracking, budget tracking, and IRS compliance.
  • Travels within the geographic region of the Fund: Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. National travel is also required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Position Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years work experience with significant and successful senior management including fiscal responsibility or 12-15 years work experience in the same.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve deadlines and manage changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail balanced with a strategic perspective.
  • Demonstrated senior leadership ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate staff.
  • Experience working in a non-profit or foundation is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computers and computer applications to accomplish position duties.
  • Ability to represent the organization and its work in a highly competent and professional manner both internally and externally.

 

Physical Working Conditions and Mental/Visual Demands  

  • Professional office environment.
  • Workload may be stressful due to deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Extensive keyboard and computer monitor use.
  • Exposure to highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Physical demands may involve lifting materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Driving and regular travel required.
  • Evening and weekend work required.
