Daniels Fund Grateful for Hank Brown’s Leadership

Hank Brown will step down as president and CEO of the Daniels Fund as of Aug. 1 to assume new responsibilities at the University of Colorado.

Brown joined the Daniels Fund on July 1, 2002 and made significant contributions in advancing the mission of the Daniels Fund. His effective leadership guided the grants and scholarship programs through a time of remarkable growth.

“I have deep respect for Hank and value him as a colleague and a friend,” said John V. Saeman, chairman of the Board of the Daniels Fund. “His presence at the Daniels Fund will be missed, but I congratulate the Regents on identifying such an outstanding person to lead the University of Colorado,” he added.

Saeman added that the board will immediately begin the difficult task of finding Brown’s replacement.

“It has been a great honor to serve as president of the Daniels Fund,” said Brown. “Bill Daniels concern for others, both in life and through his foundation after his passing, sets an example for all Coloradoans,” he added.

The Daniels Fund operates the Daniels College Prep and Scholarship Program and the Daniels Fund Grants Program in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah. The Fund was established in 1997 by Bill Daniels, a pioneer in cable television known for his kindness and generosity to those in need. When he died in 2000, his estate transferred to the Fund, making it the largest foundation in the Rocky Mountain Region.

“With sincere gratitude, the Daniels Fund Board wishes Hank Brown every success as he takes on his new responsibilities at the University of Colorado,” added Saeman.

Prior to joining the Daniels Fund, Brown served as the 11th President of the University of Northern Colorado. Prior to that, he served Colorado in the United States Senate and five consecutive terms in the U.S. House representing Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District. He also served in the Colorado Senate from 1972-76.

Brown was a Vice President of Monfort of Colorado from 1969 to 1980. He is both an attorney and a C.P.A.

He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Colorado in 1961 and served as CU’s Student Body President. He earned a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Colorado Law School in 1969. While in Washington, Brown earned a Master of Law Degree in 1986 from George Washington University. In 1988, he passed the exam to become a certified public accountant.

Brown served in the U.S. Navy from 1962-66.  He volunteered for service in Viet Nam and was decorated for his combat service as a forward air controller.  The Colorado native and his wife Nan live in Denver.  They have three adult children, Harry, Christy, and Lori; and one granddaughter, Lilly.
