Bal Swan Children's Center Receives Grant for Building Remodel

Broomfield, CO – Bal Swan Children's Center announced today that it has received a $25,000 Daniels Fund grant to remodel current facilities in conjunction with a 10,000 square-foot expansion project.

“The grant will enable our program to continue to serve children with special needs in a classroom setting with other children,” said Margaret Jacot, executive director of Bal Swan Children’s Center. “All our children benefit from the opportunity to learn and interact together,” she added.

Bal Swan Children's Center is a non-profit preschool that provides a welcoming environment for children with disabilities, as well as other children from the northern suburbs and other Front Range communities. The center provides educational services for children with disabilities from infancy to 5 years old. Approximately 40 percent of the students have a disability and 60 percent are typical preschoolers.

The school has enrolled more than 5,700 children since it was established in 1963. The center was the first of its kind in Colorado and has twice been chosen by the Colorado Department of Education for pilot projects to study educational programs for children with disabilities. The Center sets the benchmark by which all other fully inclusive preschools are measured throughout the state.

After 42 years of serving the children of Broomfield and the surrounding communities, Bal Swan Children's Center is expanding to serve more families in the growing community.

“Our expanded building will enable us to accommodate future growth and provide expanded space for our therapists,” added Jacot. “Our addition will feature state-of-the-art occupational, speech and physical therapy space and four new classrooms.”

The Daniels Fund operates the Daniels College Prep and Scholarship Program and the Daniels Fund Grants Program in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah.  The fund was established in 1997 by Bill Daniels, a pioneer in cable television known for his kindness and generosity to those in need.
