1 Who can apply for the Daniels Scholarship? To be eligible to apply for a Daniels Scholarship, students must satisfy all of the following:
2 Where can the Daniels Scholarship be used?
Daniels Scholarships may be used at any two- or four-year nonprofit accredited college or university in the United States. Students must intend to complete a bachelor’s degree. If students start at a two-year college, they must pursue an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree with an intended path to earn a bachelor’s degree. Daniels Scholarships may not be used at technical or trade schools or for participation in certificate programs. If students have questions, they may contact the Daniels Fund for clarification.
The Daniels Fund strongly encourages students to apply to college by the end of December 2012. Please note that the Daniels Scholarship can only be used at one of the schools listed in your Daniels Scholarship application. In other words, students may not apply to a new school once they have been awarded a Daniels Scholarship.
3 What is a Recommender?
A Recommender is an individual who has agreed to complete an online recommendation for a Daniels Scholarship applicant. Recommenders should be able to provide candid, detailed responses that offer insight about the applicant based upon the scholarship eligibility and selection criteria. Each student applicant must have two Recommenders.
A Recommender must be at least 21 years of age and cannot be related to the applicant. Recommendations carry considerable influence in the evaluation process, and any application missing one or both recommendations are considered incomplete and will not continue in the selection process. Therefore, it is impertive that Recommenders submit their recommendations before the November 29, 2012 deadline.
4 How will I receive the info I need to go online to prepare and submit a recommendation?
You will receive an e-mail with login instructions immediately after the student has identified you as a Recommender and has entered your name and e-mail address in their online application. The applicant is responsible for entering your correct e-mail address. The message we send to you will include a special link to the registration page. Once registered, you will be given access to complete the applicant's recommendation online.
5 How do I change my user ID or password?
Your user ID is the e-mail address entered for you by the student applicant. It is your unique identifier and it cannot be changed. If you have forgotten your password, go to the login page and click Forgot Password. Enter your user ID (your e-mail address) and click Submit. You will be redirected to a password retrieval page.
An e-mail will be sent to you with a verification code. Copy and paste the code into the Verification Code field on the password retrieval page and click Submit. You will be redirected to the password reset page. Enter a new password in both the Password and Password Confirmation fields and click Submit.
6 How do I submit an recommendation for an applicant?
7 What if I need to complete a recommendation for more than one student? As our goal is to have one user ID per unique user, you should provide the same e-mail address to each student you are recommending, which the student will enter when they identify you as a Recommender in their application. If multiple students enter your e-mail address and it already exists in the system, you will be automatically linked to each applicant. You will receive an individual e-mail regarding each applicant who listed you as a Recommender. Your user ID, however, will remain the same in each subsequent message. Once logged in, you will see a list of all of the applicants listing you as a Recommender. 8 What makes a complete application?
9 What happens after the application deadline?
Applicants will be notified of their status by the end of January 2013. Students who become Semifinalists must provide the following documents by March 1, 2013, and we ask that you assist in this process if necessary:
10 How will a student know the status of their application? Applicants will be able view the status of their application and recommendations by clicking the Status tab in the Daniels Scholarship online application.
11 How do I know the status of my recommendation?
Using the e-mail link we originally sent to you, you may return and login to see the status of your recommendation by clicking on the Status tab.
12 Submitting your recommendation
You will be able to work on your recommendation from September 17, 2012 until 4:00 PM on November 29, 2012. While you are not required to complete a recommendation all at once, you will only be able to submit the recommendation once all required information has been provided. When you are done with the recommendation, click the Submit button. Please note, clicking the Submit button is the final step in completing your recommendation.
13 Editing a submitted recommendation The need may arise for you to edit your submitted recommendation. Edits will be allowed until the November 29, 2012 deadline. You can re-open your recommendation by making a change to any field. When you re-open and make edits to an already submitted recommendation, you will need to click the Submit button again to save your changes. Edits will not be accepted after 4:00 PM on November 29. Please note, your recommendation will have a status of “In Progress” until you click the Submit button again. |
