Applicants for the Daniels Scholarship must be nominated by a Referral Agency. Referral Agencies are high schools and youth serving organizations designated by the Daniels Fund that work in each local community nominate eligible candidates. Applicants complete a detailed online application, which is accompanied by the Referral Agency nomination and recommendations provided by two additional supporters. Complete applications are screened for eligibility and evaluated by multiple reviewers to determine the Semifinalists. Semifinalists provide additional eligibility documentation and participate in interviews conducted by business, community, and civic leaders from each community. These interviews result in awarding of the Daniels Scholarships.
Eligible applicants are evaluated based on the following:
- Strength of character

APPLICATION & SELECTION TIMELINE

REFERRAL AGENCIES If you want to apply for the Daniels Scholarship, the first thing you need is a nomination.
To be eligible to compete for a Daniels Scholarship, you must be nominated by a designated Referral Agency. Referral Agencies are high schools and youth serving organizations that have been selected to participate in the Daniels Scholarship nomination process. You may receive only one nomination. A nomination is not a guarantee that you will be awarded a scholarship.
You are prohibited from being nominated by a Referral Agency where you or someone related to you is employed. You may, however, be nominated by a different Referral Agency. If the Daniels Fund becomes aware of a situation where this policy prevents a student from being nominated, we will evaluate the situation to determine if an exception is warranted. This would occur most often in rural areas with fewer Referral Agencies able to nominate students.
