The Daniels Opportunity Scholarship program seeks to provide scholarship funding for non-traditional students such as adults pursuing education later in life, GED recipients, returning military personnel, young people from the foster care system, students exiting juvenile justice programs, and those studying for their EMT or paramedic certificate.
The Daniels Fund distributes the scholarship funding in “block” grants to specific colleges and universities, both two- and four-year, in Colorado, New Mexico Utah and Wyoming. The institutions then convert the funding into scholarships and distribute it directly to students. Please note that the institutions themselves allocate the funding and the Daniels Fund is in no way involved in identifying specific students who will receive the scholarships.
As a result of the current economic downturn, we have made the difficult decision to forego funding for the Daniels Opportunity Scholarship (DOS) program for the next couple of years. The funding usually associated with the DOS program has been refocused on providing emergency services for the most vulnerable populations in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. Active, on-going DOS grants will continue to be monitored and evaluated, but no new grants will be awarded in 2009 or 2010.
We rely on your understanding of this reallocation of funds and want you to know that we hope to reinstate funding for the Daniels Opportunity Scholarships in the future. If you have any questions related to the Daniels Opportunity Scholarships, please feel free to contact Doug Elliott, Assistant Vice President, Education Grants and College & University Relations, by e-mail at delliott@danielsfund.org or by phone at (303) 393-7220.
The following colleges and universities are active current recipients of Daniels Opportunity Scholarships. Please contact them directly to apply for a scholarship.
