Career Mentoring Program Overview

Philosophy and Mission

Bill Daniels had a passion for investing in deserving students to help them obtain a college education.  He had an amazing ability for recognizing the potential in young people and often took promising students under his wing, providing mentoring and financial support for college.  The Daniels Scholar Career Mentoring Program is part of the larger Daniels Fund Scholarship Program that is a continuation of Bill Daniels legacy.

Program Overview

The Daniels Scholar Career Mentoring Program is focused on creating leaders equipped to thrive within the complexities of their future profession.  The objective is to merge the experiences inside and outside of the classroom in order to help students make the transition from an academic environment to the world of work.   As a result, the Career Mentoring Program is intended to:

The program partners professionals in a chosen field with groups of Daniels Scholars entering their fourth or final year of Daniels Scholarship funding (generally college seniors).  Through the program Daniels Scholars learn professional and personal skills from mentors serving as coaches, teachers, facilitators, advocates and friends.

Mentors and scholars are grouped together by profession and field of study to help meet the needs of the scholars.  Each group usually consists of one to four Daniels Scholars and one Career Mentor currently working in a field related to the scholars’ field of study and interests.  Each group meets with the career mentor five to six times throughout the school year.  During this time, career mentors share knowledge and advice from their professional experience, provide networking opportunities and act as a guide for Daniels Scholars preparing to enter their respective professions.

This is a tremendous opportunity for scholars and mentors to develop new relationships and for scholars to gain additional knowledge and perspective about their career path.  The program is designed to be fun and we hope this experience will be a benefit to both scholars and mentors as Daniels Scholars prepare for the next steps after college.
