The 124 Daniels Scholars graduating in 2011 were honored during a special celebration on May 23 at Johnson and Wales University in Denver.
Some 44 Daniels Scholars attended the celebration with family and friends. The gathering took place at the Event Center at Johnson and Wales University.
Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund, congratulated the new graduates and introduced members of the Daniels Fund board who were attending the graduation celebration as part of their quarterly board meeting.
Jim Nicholson, a Daniels Fund board member who is the former U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs, congratulated the new graduates during the evening’s keynote address. He explained that, despite growing up in a family in great financial need, education was a priority in his family.
John Bales, a 2002 Daniels Scholar who received his MBA from the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver, and a law degree from Notre Dame University, shared his passion for making life better with the new graduates.
Tracey Lovett, assistant vice president of the Daniels Scholarship Program, introduced each of the graduating Daniels Scholars and presented them with certificates of achievement. The evening concluded with the graduated Daniels Scholars reciting a special version of the Daniels Scholar Pledge that they took when they became new Daniels Scholars.
