OpenWorld Learning Receives Grants for Program Evaluation Site
(DENVER, CO) – OpenWorld Learning (OWL) announced today that it has received funding from The Anschutz Foundation, Daniels Fund and Gates Family Foundation to support its new Program Evaluation Site at Eagleton Elementary School in Denver for the next three years.
The OpenWorld Learning Program Evaluation Site will be used to conduct rigorous outcome evaluation of the OpenWorld Learning Elementary School Program relative to the behavior, development and academic achievements of its participants over the next three school years. OWL will collect and analyze relevant data for both participants and non-participants in order to benchmark and identify the impact and outcomes of OWL’s curriculum and program. The site will not only provide OWL with strong evidence of its impact, but will also provide a “joint-learning” environment with Eagleton Elementary to maximize and integrate the value of shared data in order to improve school and student performance. Additionally, OWL will use the outcome data for continuous improvement of its own curriculum and programs.
“We are grateful for the level of interest and funding we’ve received, and believe this is a clear indicator of the importance that funders are placing on rigorous outcome measurement.” noted OWL’s CEO Dean Abrams. “When combined with other actions we have been taking, including the creation of an Outcome Evaluation Manager role within our organization, we are confident that OWL is responding to the needs of its constituencies, from student to funder. Quite simply, outcome evaluation is no longer a ‘nice to have’; it’s a ‘must have’.”
Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund commented on OpenWorld Learning and the unique approach they are taking to program evaluation. “OpenWorld Learning provides students with an opportunity to achieve academic success and build skills that will enable them to become successful adults,” Childears said. “Their innovative approach to evaluating their programs will allow them to benchmark the success they are achieving and take their programs to the next level of excellence.”
Eagleton Elementary School is located in the Villa Park neighborhood with 97% of its students qualifying for free or reduced lunch program, and 88% of the student population is Hispanic.
