Santa Fe, NM – Food for Santa Fe announced today that it has received a $15,000 grant for General Operating Support from the Daniels Fund. Food for Santa Fe, a 501 (c) (3), all volunteer organization, provides supplemental food on a regular basis to individuals and families in need. The organization has received support from the Daniels Fund in the past, but this year the grant involves a matching component. An additional $7,500 must be raised to match that amount of the total grant, specifically contributions from new donors or increased amounts from current or previous donors.
Alvino Castillo, president of Food for Santa Fe, said, “We greatly appreciate the continued support from the Daniels Fund and we are eager to get to work to raise the required $7500. It is our hope that the generous people of Santa Fe will respond to this need to help our friends and neighbors who are going through difficult times – down but not out! Our city is not exempt from hunger and food insecurity facing so many disadvantaged individuals who are jobless or receiving low wages during a faltering economy. Yet, they want to put food on the table for their families and, when the cupboard is bare, this grant will go toward the bulk purchase of the eggs, canned goods and other foods we include in the grocery bags we distribute starting at 6 a.m. Thursday mornings from our warehouse location behind the Food Depot at 1222 Siler Road, off Cerrillos. Volunteers are welcome to join us early on Wednesday and Thursday mornings to pack and distribute the bags of food.”
