Daniels Fund announces $7 million in first-quarter grants

Outstanding nonprofits in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming receive support from the Daniels Fund.

Programs enhancing educational opportunities for youth and those providing services for the homeless and disadvantagedwere among the major recipients of $7 million in grants to nonprofit organizations in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming announced this week by the Daniels Fund.

Major grant recipients in Colorado include: Catholic Charities and Community Services; Denver Police Activities League; Family Star; Gold Crown; Jewish Family Service of Colorado; Karis Community; Metro Denver Lemonade Day; Mile High Ministries; Qualistar Early Learning; Rocky Mountain Microfinance Institute; Sims-Fayola International Academy; Stand for Children; Salvation Army Intermountain Division; and many others.

Grant recipients in New Mexico include: Albuquerque Institute for Mathematics & Science at the University of New Mexico; Crossroads for Women; Dismas House of New Mexico; First Tee Santa Fe; Helen Keller International – Childsight New Mexico program; New Vistas; Nonviolence Works; Oxford House; Palmer Drug Abuse Program of Lea County; Partners for Developing Futures – LEAD Academy; Santa Fe Community Services; Santa Fe Preparatory School – Breakthrough Santa Fe; Southeast New Mexico Community Action Corporation; The Volunteer Center of Grant County; and Youth Shelters and Family Services.

Grant recipients in Utah include: Boy Scouts of America, Great Salt Lake Council; Catholic Community Services; Grand County School District – BEACON Program; Jewish Family Service; New Hope Crisis Center of Box Elder County; People Helping People; Playworks Education Energized; Utah State University – Tele-Intervention Project; and others.

Grant recipients in Wyoming include the Learning Tree Christian School in Buffalo for capital expansion; Shoshoni Senior Citizens Center for program support and capital upgrades; and support to finalize the capital campaign for the construction of the Sundance Kid’s Children’s Center. 

“These organizations set a high standard for excellence in serving people in need in Colorado,” explained Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund. “We are honored to support their efforts to make life better for people in communities across the state,” she added.

The Daniels Fund will award a projected $33 million in grants to nonprofits in 2012. Funding areas include: Aging, Alcoholism & Substance Abuse, Amateur Sports, Disabilities, Early Childhood Education, K-12 Education Reform, Ethics & Integrity in Education, Homeless & Disadvantaged, and Youth Development.
