Daniels Fund Awards Grants to Nonprofit Organizations

The Daniels Fund board approved $10.7 million in grants during their first quarter meeting this week in Denver.

Feb. 18, 2011 -- Nonprofit organizations serving youth, seniors, and the homeless in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming are among the recipients of $10.7 million in grants announced this week by the Daniels Fund.

“These nonprofits are highly effective at providing vital services to the most vulnerable members of our communities,” said Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund.  “And as a result of their incredible work, our communities become better places to live,” she added.

Recipients in Colorado include: Arapahoe County Early Childhood Council; Autism Society of Colorado; Bennie E. Goodwin After School Academic Program; Bridgeway Home; City Year; Colfax Community Network; Denver Inner City Parish; Family Learning Center; Friends of Children with Down Syndrome; Friends of Man - Equipment for the Disabled; Food Bank of Larimer County; Foundation for Educational Excellence for the Promise Center, Denver; Girls Athletic Leadership Schools, Denver;  Phoenix Multisport; St. Francis Center; Senior Support Services; University of Denver Bridge Project; and many others.

Recipients in New Mexico include: A Peaceful Habitation & Aftercare Ministry; ACE Leadership High School; Aztec Boys & Girls Club; Bridges Project for Education; Casa de Peregrinos; DreamTree Project; Fort Sumner Community Development Corp.; Interfaith Community Shelter Group; Metropolitan Homeless Project; Rocky Mountain Youth Corps; Taos Jewish Center; Teach for America, New Mexico; The Food Depot; and others.

Recipients in Utah include: Box Elder Community Pantry, Brigham City; Boy Scouts of America, Utah National Parks Council; Family Support Center of Southwestern Utah; Girls Scouts of Utah, Salt Lake City; The Road Home, Salt Lake City; and Your Community Connection of Ogden.

Recipients in Wyoming include: Boys and Girls Club of Campbell County; Casper Family YMCA Teen and Tween Youth Program; Dubois Youth Activities Entrepreneurial After-School and Summer Program; Interfaith of Natrona County; Jubilee House Transitional Self-Sufficiency Program of Douglas; Mother Seton House of Casper; Natrona County Meals on Wheels; St. Vincent de Paul Society Emergency Food Pantry of Rawlins; Wyoming Volunteers of America of Sheridan; and others.

The program areas eligible for grants through the Daniels Fund fall under the categories of: Aging, Alcoholism & Substance Abuse, Amateur Sports, Disabilities, Education, Homeless & Disadvantaged, and Youth Development.Bill Daniels, a cable television pioneer known for his kindness and generosity to people in need, established the Daniels Fund to award grants to outstanding nonprofits and scholarships to deserving students in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
