Daniels Fund 3rd Annual Ethics Case Competition
Student teams from eight universities in four states compete

DENVER – The Daniels Fund is hosting its 2014 Case Competition on April 16-17 at the Hyatt Regency Convention Center. This is the third year that student teams from eight universities in four states will converge in Denver to compete in this unique experience.

The two-day event kicks-off Wednesday with a dinner featuring speaker Joe Blake, chancellor emeritus of Colorado State University System. Thursday includes a full day of team presentations, and closes with a dinner featuring speaker Barbara Thompson, executive vice president at Mountain States Employers Council, and awards presented to the winning teams.

The Ethics Case Competition was designed to challenge student’s ethical reasoning and raise awareness of the importance of principle-based ethics. Competing teams hail from universities partnering in the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative.

Student teams are provided in advance with a business ethics case (Part A) that requires an analysis of the situation and a prepared response. At the competition, each team presents their response to a panel of judges and participates in a question-answer session. They then receive Part B, a crisis that puts a twist on the case. Teams have four hours to re-analyze their response and make a second presentation to the judges.

Judges evaluate presentations against established criteria, including principles Bill Daniels believed to be valuable business assets: integrity, trust, accountability, transparency, fairness, respect, rule of law, and viability.
