How the Daniels Fund Scholarship has impacted my life:

Please describe what it means to you to be a Daniels Scholar:   It means that I have an opportunity to excel in life, to get an education and opportunity I may otherwise not have had. It also means getting out of the environment that is trying to hold me back, so I can discover who I am as a person and where I would like to be in my life. Being a Daniels Scholar gives me the opportunity to change someone else’s life and show them that regardless of what you can from, you can make it to bigger and better things. Being a Scholar gives me a voice.

What do you like most about being in college?    The thing I like most about being in College is being able to explore different things, different career paths, different culture, and people. Being able to grow as an individual and promote myself to others around me.

What has been the greatest challenge so far in college?   The greatest challenge so far has been staying true to myself and not giving up. There have been so many times when I have wanted to give up, but because of the support I have from friends and family as well as Daniels employees, I have stayed in the fight. Also staying true to myself has been a challenge. It is so easy to fall into the grasp of college life. The parties and clubbing, but I have succeeded in blocking the pressure in order to focus on me and school, it has been hard.

What advice would you offer someone who is applying to become a Daniels Scholar?   I advise someone who is apply to become a scholar to really explore their options, and don't be afraid to take risk, Try a study abroad program, meet new people, join clubs and make a big support system of friends and faculty because it will help in your success of becoming a stronger person in life as well as your success and ability in school.
