Bill Daniels’ motivation

Bill had first-hand knowledge of the challenges faced by people with developmental disabilities. His sister, Dorothy, was developmentally disabled, and Bill watched as his parents provided loving and patient care for her at home. Later in life, Bill struggled with profound hearing loss, and he came to personally understand the need to overcome the obstacles that can arise from a physical disability.

These personal experiences motivated Bill to name Disabilities as a grants funding area.

Our goals in this funding area

The Daniels Fund honors Bill’s direction to support programs that help the developmentally disabled and their families achieve maximum independence and quality of life.
Bill was also concerned that many people with disabilities are not able to afford the life-changing equipment they need. The Daniels Fund supports programs that provide equipment to enhance the lives of those living with physical challenges.

Disabilities

Goal: Assist individuals with physical and developmental disabilities and their families in achieving and maintaining independence and quality of life.

Motivation: At a time when most people with disabilities were institutionalized, Bill’s developmentally disabled sister, Dorothy, received dedicated care and support at home. Bill saw the benefits of compassionate care. He also suffered from his own disability — hearing loss — later in life.
