Position Information 

Title:  Scholar Relations Officer

Department:  Scholarship

Salary:  High $60s 


Position Summary

The Scholar Relations Officer provides support to a designated group of Daniels Scholars and evaluates Daniels Scholar compliance with scholarship program requirements, while maintaining and extending the legacy of our founder, Bill Daniels. Responsibilities include maintaining an emphasis on increasing four-year graduation rates and helping position Daniels Scholars for post-graduation employment and community engagement. This position establishes and maintains professional relationships with colleges and universities.

This position also assists with the Daniels Scholar selection process and programming, as necessary.

 

Position Duties 

Scholar Relations Activities

  • Mentors a cohort of approximately 200 Daniels Scholars from the time of selection to the time of graduation. Actively monitors Daniels Scholar academic performance and progress toward an undergraduate degree. Proactively encourages graduation within four years.  
  • Communicates on a regular basis with Daniels Scholar cohort group regarding upcoming deadlines, requirements, and expectations. Provides academic advising and financial aid counseling to Daniels Scholars as necessary.
  • Performs semi-annual review of academic transcripts, graduation plans, work verification reports, and other information furnished by Daniels Scholars to determine adherence with scholarship requirements. Communicates findings and recommendations for scholarship status changes to the Assistant Vice President, Scholar Relations.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding individual Daniels Scholar requests in accordance with the handbook.
  • Coordinates the Daniels Scholar Success Program on designated campuses, coordinates efforts with Campus Liaisons, and Scholar Ambassadors.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with colleges and universities attended by Daniels Scholars, with the goal of making these schools familiar with the Daniels Fund and the scholarship program, as well as enhancing on-campus support for Daniels Scholars.
  • Collaborates with other staff in developing "best practice" approaches for managing scholar-related issues and challenges.
  • Enters and manages Daniels Scholar information in the scholarship management information system. Develops user knowledge and proficiency with the system's data tracking, operational reporting, and scholar communication functionality. Makes data-driven decisions.
  • Assists with Boundless Opportunity Scholarship program as necessary.
  • Job performance will be evaluated against a framework of quantitative and qualitative performance measures that assess both departmental and individual cohort objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Scholar Selection and Programming Activities

  • Within a designated territory, assists with Daniels Scholar selection activities, as necessary.
  • As requested, conducts interview training for volunteers and manages one or more interview sites.
  • Contributes to Daniels Scholar programming activities with specific emphasis on presentation and explanation of scholarship requirements and procedures to new Daniels Scholars, presentation and explanation of financial aid processes, and Daniels Scholarship financial payment policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the summer orientation program (SHIFT) and other scholar activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Position Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of related successful work experience or 7 years of work successful work experience in the same.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse, college-aged students with financial need.
  • Passion for mentoring students and a demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with young adults.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve deadlines and manage changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and analytical skills. Ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail balanced with a strategic perspective.
  • Experience working in a non-profit or foundation is helpful.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computers and computer applications to accomplish position duties.
  • Ability to represent the organization and its work in a highly competent and professional manner both internally and externally.

 

Physical Working Conditions and Mental/Visual Demands  

  • Professional office environment.
  • Workload may be stressful due to deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Extensive keyboard and computer monitor use.
  • Exposure to highly sensitive and confidential information. 
  • Physical demands may involve lifting materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Driving and regular travel required.
  • Evening and weekend work required.
